Shortlisted nominees were announced by Civil Service World on the social media site Twitter at 10:00am this morning.

The annual awards, now in their ninth year, are designed to recognise the achievements of teams or individuals that have shown innovation, made a significant difference in their area over the past 12 months or impressed beyond their immediate team and department.

Departments are invited to nominate those that they believe deserve recognition and this year 695 nominations were received.

“These awards give us the chance to take pride in the big achievements of the Civil Service,” said Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood, adding that the awards celebrated the success of “individual civil servants.”

The nominees were chosen by a panel of expert judges that included permanent under-secretary for Ministry of Justice Ursula Brennan; permanent secretary at the Department of Health Una O’Brien; Bjorn Conway, head of Aerospace, Defence, Security and Resilience at EY; permanent under-secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Simon Fraser, Director-General, Civil Service Reform and Functional Leadership Olly Robbins and permanent secretary, Department for Education Chris Wormald.
