Speaker: Parliament could be abandoned

John Bercow has warned that Parliament could be abandoned unless significant investment is made to renovate and repair the building over the next decade.

The Speaker of the House of Commons said that a potential £3bn cost for the work was a “realistic scenario”.

In a speech to the Hansard Society last night, Mr Bercow said it would be a “huge pity” if Parliament was abandoned. But he added that without major investment within 20 years “that will be the outcome”.
