The government last week unveiled eight reviews of EU competencies – the second set it has published – covering a range of issues including trade and investment, transport and the environment. The report on trade and investment said businesses generally believe that membership increases the UK’s international influence.

Labour MP Mike Gapes accused the government of “sneaking out” the report under the cover of the floods crisis, and in the week before recess, in order to avoid proper scrutiny of its conclusions.

The government has delayed publication of a report on the free movement of people. The Telegraph reports this is due to debates between the coalition partners on the issue.
