Under the pension changes, civil servants will see their average contribution more than double next month – from 2.4% to 5.6% of salary.

But although information about the reforms was published in December 2013, Adrian Dottridge said that the changes may have “gone off people’s radar a bit”. He added that “from now onwards, we’ve got a comms plan and we’re going to ramp up the communication significantly.”

To start the communications push, Dottridge will send out a letter to all 450,000 pension members informing them about the imminent changes, followed by more frequent and regular communication “so that everyone, by the time we get into April 2015, has a good understanding of what’s happening to them”.
