Discussing the NAO’s 2014-15 budget proposals with the Public Accounts Committee, Morse said “it’s quite likely we’ll find ourselves doing a lot more work – more investigative work,” in the future, since “there’s so much happening out there and so much pressure” on service providers.
Morse warned against any further cuts to the NAO budget, arguing that his organisation has already delivered big savings and been through a “painful process” of redundancies designed to balance the books. Telling staff that, despite all their efforts, yet more savings must be found “really doesn’t make a lot of sense,” he said.
