Watch: The road to proactive government

Unexpected "black swan" events are more likely to occur than we realise. For example, history tells us that financial downturns often precede conflicts. Due to the uncertainty and limited information available, government leaders must prepare strategies based on what seems most likely and urgent at any given time. Governments may struggle to allocate taxpayer funds to prepare for a risk that may not materialise, but the public may question why the government did not take adequate action or prepare sufficiently when unexpected events occur.

In this CSW webinar, hosted in partnership with SAS,  senior government officials explore the strategies and tools available to them to be prepared for the unexpected while protecting and improving citizens' lives.

Chaired by CSW co-editor Jessica Bowie, the panel is made up of:

  • Maryam Ahmad, Head of Analysis for the Reducing Reoffending Pilot and the Evaluation of the Better Outcomes through Linked Data (BOLD) programme at the Ministry of Justice
  • Duncan Brown, Head of Software Engineering at Cabinet Office Incubator for AI
  • Gavin Freeguard, Associate at Institute for Government

Watch on-demand to learn about:

  • How to improve government's situational awareness
  • Improving the use of real-time data for better decision-making
  • The role of emergent technologies in improving operational efficiencies and increasing public trust
