Houses of Parliament

  • House of Lords: Lord Lipsey, previously Labour, now sits as non-affiliated.
  • House of Commons: Anne Marie Morris had the Conservative Party Whip restored; Communities and Local Government Committee – Jo Platt appointed as a member; Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee – Kerry McCarthy appointed as a member, replacing Jo Platt.

Government departments

  • Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Marine Management Organisation – Hilary Florek appointed as chair.
  • Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport: OfCom – Lord Burns appointed as chair from January; Historic England ​– Sandra Dinneen, Paul Farmer, Patrick Newberry, Susie Thornberry, and Richard Upton appointed as commissioners.
  • Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy: Sarah Bedwell appointed as certification officer from January, replacing Gerard Walker; Competition Appeal Tribunal – Jane Burgess, Michael Cutting, Paul Dollman, Tim Frazer, Robin Mason, Derek Ridyard and Timothy Sawyer appointed as members.

  • Water Services Regulation Authority – Rachel Fletcher appointed as chief executive from 8 January.

Local authorities

  • Southampton City Council – Dawn Baxendale to stand down as chief executive in April.
  • Birmingham City Council – Dawn Baxendale to become chief executive in 2018.
  • Epping Forest District Council – Glen Chipp to stand down as chief executive in April.
  • Horsham District Council – Glen Chipp to replace Tom Crowley as chief executive in April.

By-election results 13 December

  • Exeter Borough Council –  Matthew Vizard elected for Newtown & St Leonards – Labour hold.
  • Waverley Borough Council – Paul Follows elected for Godalming Central & Ockford – Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.

  • Barnsley Council – Nicola Sumner elected for Rockingham – Labour hold.
  • Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council – Andrew Fox-Hewitt elected for Bradwell ​– Labour hold.
  • Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council – Jill Waring elected for Newchapel – Conservative gain from Labour.
  • Salford Council – Wilson Nkurunziza elected for Langworthy ​– Labour hold.
  • Torbay Council – Swithin Long elected for Watcombe –Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Torridge District Council – Nick laws elected for Westward Ho! – Independent gain from Conservative.
