Government departments

  • Ministry of Justice: HM Prison and Probation Service - Phil Copple appointed as director general for prisons on an interim basis, and Amy Rees as director general for probation on an interim basis.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office: David Lelliott has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador; David McIlroy has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea in succession to Catherine Inglehearn in June; Neil Bush is to succeed Sian MacLeod as Head of the United Kingdom’s Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in March.
  • HM Treasury: Financial Policy Committee - Colette Bowe and Jayne-Anne Gadhia have been appointed as external members.
  • Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Ben Elliot appointed as government’s first Food Surplus and Waste Champion.

House of Lords

  • Lord Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon (Liberal Democrat, Life Peer) died on 22 December.
  • Lord Higgins (Conservative, Life Peer) retired on 1 January.

House of Commons

  • John Redwood, Gary Streeter and Alan Campbell received knighthoods.
  • Edward Leigh, Philip Dunne and Roger Gale joined the Privy Council.
  • Fiona Onasanya expelled from the Labour Party and now sits as Independent.
  • Andrew Bowie appointed as parliamentary private secretary to the prime minister.

Devolved Authorities

  • Welsh Government: Transport for Wales – Scott Waddington named as the new chair.

Interest Groups

  • Save the Children UK: Peter Bennett-Jones to resign as chair at the end of the month.
  • Campaign for Real Ale: Tom Stainer appointed as chief executive and Ken Owst as deputy chief executive.
