  • Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy: Natascha Engel named as the new independent Commissioner for Shale Gas; Intellectual Property Office – Stephen Rowan appointed Vice-President of the European Patent Office Directorate-General Patent Granting Process; Civil Nuclear Constabulary - Mike Griffiths to stand down as Chief Constable and CEO in March.
  • Ministry of Justice: Carole Mundell announced as the new chief scientific adviser; Prisons and Probation Ombudsman – Sue McAllister appointed as the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Jeremy Pilmore-Bedford named as the new British Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, replacing Bharat Joshi; Dr Alastair McPhail CMG OBE has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Her Majesty’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Djibouti and Permanent Representative to the African Union.
  • Department for Work and Pensions: Lisa Hunter appointed as director of communications.
  • HM Treasury: Industrial Strategy Council - Andy Haldane appointed as chair.
  • Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport: Royal Armouries - Neil Grant, Paul Kirkman and Jonathan Sands appointed as trustees.
  • Home Office: Stephen House replaced Craig Mackay as Metropolitan Police Service deputy commissioner.

Devolved authorities

  • Scottish Government: Scottish Fiscal Commission  David Ulph and Francis Breedon named as members.

Wigan Council: Donna Hall to retire as Chief Executive next year; by-election Results 9th October: City of London Corporation - Natasha Lloyd-Owen elected for Castle Baynard – Labour gain from Independent. (Emma Edhem resigned); By-election Results 11th October: Adur Council – Debs Stainforth elected for Southlands – Labour gain from UKIP. (Paul Graysmark resigned); Halton Council – Edward Dourley elected for Ditton – Labour hold. (Shaun Osborne disqualified for non-attendance); Hartlepool Council – James Brewer elected for Hart – Independent gain from Labour. (Paul Beck resigned); Warrington Council – Geoff Fellows elected for Penketh & Cuerdley – Independent gain from Labour.
