ElectUK is a mobile application that allows users to track, analyse and visualise Twitter conversations around the 2015 UK General Election.

Designed, built and delivered by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), ElectUK turns your smartphone into an advanced social media analytics tool, giving you the ability to identify and share online trends around the upcoming election.

The app is free to download and is available on iOS and Android devices.

What does it do?
The ElectUK app analyses Twitter updates from, and mentions about, more than two thousand Parliamentary candidates from across the UK, allowing users to:

  • View a ranking of the UK’s most talked about candidates and parties
  • Monitor and compare positive and negative sentiment about both individual candidates and parties
  • Identify the most talked about political issues, as well as the parties and candidates most closely associated with them
  • Access a geographic breakdown of party mentions, positive and negative sentiment and key election issues

The app’s dataset is refreshed every 30 minutes, giving users the ability to track the online trends that are shaping the election.

How does it work?
ElectUK analyses data taken directly from Twitter about, and from, the political parties, individuals and topics that are set to dominate this year’s General Election. This data is run through Big Data analytics software developed by Tata Consultancy Services and delivered to the application as a range of share-able graphics.

The app is based on TCS’ own PeriVista Big Data solution, which uses contextual analytics and sophisticated linguistic tools to provide insight on the sentiment and frequency of Twitter conversations.
