Conall Bullock has been named as the Cabinet Office's first chief digital officer.
Bullock, who has previously worked in the charitable sector as IT director for Mencap and head of IT for Scope, will report directly to Cabinet Office permanent secretary Richard Heaton.

According to an advert posted on the Green Park Jobs site, Bullock will be paid "in the region of £90,000", with the Cabinet Office saying at the time that it was looking for "a moderniser" and "an exceptional technologist who will push a progressive digital and technological agenda".
"This role is about moving government away from outsourced services driven by legacy systems," the specification said.
"The CDO will deliver world-class digital services on a modern technological footing based on user needs. It will mean the government bringing high-quality technological capability back in house in order to drive real business transformation.
"The success of the chosen candidate will ultimately be measured against their delivery of technology that enables the next generation of digital public services, and the civil service best-in-class working environments."
Bullock will lead the Cabinet Office's new in-house digital and technology team, which was unveiled in January and splits its work across five areas: digital engagement; delivery, architecture; service operations; and business operations. It is understood that he has already started in his new role.
His appointment has been welcomed by head of the Government Digital Service Mike Bracken, who was last month handed the new role of chief data officer. Bracken tweeted:
