Civil Service World and Northgate Public Services are holding round table on transforming government through digital technology. The discussion will take place from 12.30–14.30 on Thursday 31 March in Westminster, London. Lunch will be provided and places are free.
In November, Chancellor George Osborne pledged £1.8bn for digital transformation in government across the next Spending Review period. The package includes £450m to help roll out “Government as a Platform” (GaaP), which the Treasury describes as “a common set of core systems that enable government departments to share digital services, technology and processes”.
However, research commissioned by Northgate Public Services reveals that only 7% of civil servants feel very confident about their department’s ability to realise savings from digital transformation.
This round table aims to delve deeper, looking at lessons from existing digital initiatives and addressing the following topics:
-In which areas can digital transformation help civil servants deliver better and more efficient services?
-Can digital transformation help break down ‘silo’ working? Are traditional barriers to collaboration, such as data security worries, being overcome?
-What can be done to ensure staff and service users embrace changes to existing processes?
-What are the respective roles for departments, the Government Digital Service and private suppliers in delivering digital transformation within government?
-What is Government as a Platform and how can it help officials’ work?
Spaces are limited, so please reserve your place promptly to avoid disappointment. Please RSVP to roundtables@dods.co.uk or call Ottilie Marchmont on 0207 593 5669.
