Watch on-demand: What To Do Now - The Spending Review’s impact on departments and civil servants

The 2021 Spending Review was the first review since 2015 and, according to chancellor Rishi Sunak in the House of Commons, it was a settlement to create “an economy fit for a new age of optimism”.

This session looked at what the review means for civil servants — from what departments got the most from the chancellor, what the renewed focus on policy evaluation will lead to, and where departments can make efficiency savings.

Speakers

  • Dr Gemma Tetlow, chief economist, Institute for Government
  • Dame Una O'Brien, former permanent Secretary at the Department of Health from 2010 to March 2016.
  • Simon Bittlestone, director, value for money at the National Audit Office.
  • Nick Jackson strategy leader for finance and supply chain in Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Oracle.
