New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues at Dods People

Government departments

  • Home Office – Damian Hinds appointed as minister of state for security. Police Remuneration Review Body and National Crime Agency Remuneration Review Bodies – Andy Bliss appointed as chair on an interim basis until 21st November.
  • Department for Transport – Highways England to be renamed National Highways, with Nick Harris as chief executive.
  • Department for Education: Education and Skills Funding Agency – Owen Jenkins named as interim director of funding, while John Edwards' appointment is interim chief executive.
  • Ministry of Justice: Gov Facility Services Limited – Ian Deninson named as a non-executive director.
  • HM Revenue & Customs – Jonathan Athow to replace Ruth Stanier as director general for the customer strategy and tax design group from October.

Houses of Parliament

House of Lords

  • Viscount Simon (Labour, hereditary peer) died on 15th August.
  • Lord Palumbo of Southwark (Liberal Democrat, life peer) granted a leave of absence on 18th August.

Local authorities

  • Oldham Council – Harry Catherall to be appointed as interim chief executive from 26th August.
  • Sandwell Council – Kim Bromley-Derry appointed as interim chief executive, replacing David Stevens.
  • Perth & Kinross Council – Thomas Glen to become chief executive in November.
  • Renfrewshire Council – Sandra Black to stand down as chief executive at the end of the year.
