Scotland close to climate target

Scotland narrowly missed its first annual target for carbon emission reductions, falling short by just two per cent due to exceptionally cold winter months, according to the Committee on Climate Change (CCC).

The CCC said the country has performed well and would have met the target, covering 2010, with less severe weather. It also found that in 2011, Scotland produced 36 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy, compared to a target of 31 per cent and the UK figure of 9 per cent.
