The Crown Commercial Service has launched a new funding framework that will allow construction firms to bid for work in government projects through to 2026.

The Construction Works and Associated Services commercial agreement sets out plans for new builds, as well as refurbishment, repair, demolition or decommissioning across the public sector in the next seven years.

The agreement implements a number of standard terms for construction deals, including prompt payment initiatives and project bank accounts to support supply chains.

John Welch, CCS’s deputy director for construction, said the agreement would support construction and drive industry growth.

“Its lotting structure has been designed to maximise opportunities for all sizes of company and that includes SMEs, which play a key role in UK construction,” he added.

“For example, standardised payment terms and other fair payment objectives are embedded within the framework scope. This agreement also facilitates the use of digitisation in construction and promotes the use of innovative solutions via modern methods of construction.”

The tender period for the contract went live on 31 January, and a bidders’ day will take place on 8 February.
