May wants more debate of domestic security at NSC

“I have had a concern to make sure there is sufficient focus on domestic topics of national security” in the NSC, she said. “If any action overseas has an implication on the domestic scene, that should be taken into account clearly and properly in the discussions that the council has.”

She cited the counter-narcotics role of the Serious Organised Crime Agency in Afghanistan, and the on-going discussion about its role in the country after the military drawdown post-2014.

“I’d expect those [Home Office issues] to go into the NSC for consideration alongside the wider picture in terms of the UK’s presence,” she said.
