Shadow education minister Stephen Twigg has called for an investigation into the behaviour of education secretary Michael Gove’s special advisers, after reports that they’re behind an anonymous Twitter account posting aggressive and party-political attacks on journalists.

The Observer this weekend suggested that Dominic Cummings and Henry de Zoete have fed info to the account @toryeducation, an allegation which both men deny.

The education department said: “If we were to receive any evidence anyone had broken the special advisers’ or civil service code, we’d take appropriate steps, but so far no such evidence has been provided.”
