HM Revenue & Customs’ new Bristol hub has passed a key phase of construction and is being fitted out ready for the first staff to arrive this summer, the tax agency has said.
The base at Glass Wharf, near Temple Meads Station, is one of 13 new regional centres HMRC is opening in the coming years and will house around 1,650 staff by the end of 2021.
HMRC said the building would be its second regional centre to open – the first is in Croydon, and would take in its first staff this summer.

At a recent key-handover ceremony, financial secretary to the Treasury Mel Stride said the hub represented a commitment to Bristol and the South West on the part of HMRC.
“This is a significant milestone for HMRC, which will bring together more than 1,600 colleagues into one central location,” he said.
Stride pledged top return for the building’s official opening later this year.
While HMRC will be the main occupier of the eight-storey building, the agency said additional space would be made available for other government departments – including Civil Service HR staff.
The structure’s ground floor will be given over to commercial lettings.
