Government departments

  • Department for Culture, Media and Sport: Royal Armouries – Lord Dannatt reappointed as Chair. 
  • Ministry of Justice: Prison Service Pay Review Body - Andrew Dickerson, Peter Maddison and Paul West appointed as members.
  • Department of Transport: High Speed 2 Ltd – Simon Kirby to stand down as Chief Executive, Mel Ewell appointed to the board.
  • HM Treasury: Office for Budget Responsibility – Charles Bean to join the Budget Responsibility Committee.
  • Wales Office: Boundary Commission for Wales – Paul Loveluck and Robert McNabb reappointed as members.
  • Home Office: Animals in Science Committee – Donald Bruce, Hannah Clarke, Barney Reed, Sally Robinson, Clare Stanford, Aurelie Thomas and Wendy Jarrett appointed as members.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Holly Tett has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Malawi.
  • Competition and Markets Authority - Joel Bamford and Colin Raftery appointed as Directors of Mergers, Tim Capel and Martim de Lancastre Valentre appointed as Legal Directors. 

House of Lords

  • Lord Newby is the new Leader of the Liberal Democrats Lords. 
  • Baroness Nicholson joined the Conservative group, leaving the Liberal Democrats.
  • Communications Committee – Lord Gilbert of Panteg replaced Baroness Goldie as a member.
  • Licencing Act 2003 Committee – Baroness Eaton replaced Lord Hayward as a member.
  • European Union Committee – Baroness Verma replaced Baroness Morris of Bolton as a member.
  • Privileges and Conduct – Earl Cathcard replaced Lord Young of Cookham as a member.
  • Intellectual Property (Unjustified Threats) Bill Committee – Lord Saville of Newdigate appointed as Chair; Baroness Bowles of Berkhamsted, Viscount Hanworth, Lord Lucas, Baroness Mobarik, Baroness Neville-Rolfe, Lord Plant of Highfield, Earl Shrewsbury, Lord Stevenson of Balmacara and Baroness Wilcox appointed as members. ​

House of Commons

  • David Cameron resigned as MP for Witney, a by-election to replace him will be held on 20th October.
  • The Batley and Spen by-election to replace Jo Cox will be held on the 20th October.
  • Environmental Audit Committee – Alan Whitehead replaced Carolyn Harris as a member.
  • Public Accounts Committee – Philip Boswell replaced Deidre Brock as a member.

Welsh Assembly

  • External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee – Michelle Brown joins as member. ​

Northern Ireland Executive

  • Sir Malcolm McKibbin to step down as head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service in January 2017.
  • Department of Education – Paul Sweeney to retire as Permanent Secretary at the end of 2016. 

Local Authority By-election Results 15th September

  • Carlisle Council - Anne Glendinning elected for Castle – Labour hold.
  • East Hertfordshire Council – Peter Boylan elected for Puckeridge – Conservative hold. 
  • Newcastle upon Tyne Council – Nora Casey elected for Blakelaw – Labour hold. 
  • North East Derbyshire Council - David Hancock elected for Tupton – Liberal Democrat gain from Labour. 
  • Shropshire Council - Jonny Keeley elected for Bishop’s Castle – Liberal Democrat hold.

Industry & interest groups

  • Centre for Social Justice – Iain Duncan Smith returns as Chair, Andy Cook appointed as the Chief Executive. 
  • Legatum Institute – Philippa Stroud to join as Chief Executive. 
  • Wellcome Trust – Clare Matterson has stood down as Director of Strategy. 
  • Media Trust – Caroline Diehl to stand down as Chief Executive in early 2017, but will remain a Patron. 
  • Hanbury Strategy – new agency being set up by Paul Stephenson and Armeet Gill.
