Equality duty review begins

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport last week appointed members of a steering group to oversee the government’s review of the Public Sector Equality Duty, which requires all public sector bodies to ensure that their policy delivery and internal processes do not discriminate against any groups.

The review will report by April 2013 on how the duty is working and how effectively it supports delivery of the government’s Equality Strategy, and provide options and recommendations for changes.

It will be chaired by former Conservative MP Rob Hayward, and has ten members including Jonathan Rees, director general of the Government Equalities Office.
