NHS complaints up 50 per cent

The NHS received 50 per cent more complaints from people who felt the service had not acknowledged mistakes in care in 2011-12 than in 2010-11, according to a report published last week by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. Responses to complaints were often poor, without adequate explanations or apologies, and staff must embed “good complaint handling at the heart of the new NHS,” said ombudsman Julie Mellor.
