Cabinet Office to boost digital operations with creation of a “mini-GDS”

A new digital and technology department is being developed in the Cabinet Office to push forward the digital-first agenda across the civil service.

The Cabinet Office have said that they hope to bring the “top digital and technology talent back into the civil service” to “iterate and continually improve” Whitehall’s own digital capability.

The decision to create a new team is part of the government’s aim to deliver better technology services to civil servants.

Comprising five separate teams, one team will serve as a “mini-GDS” and will “support the digital leader to make sure the centre of government is driving the digital-first agenda internally”.

The four other teams will be responsible for monitoring the delivery, architecture and operation of digital and technology services across Whitehall.

According to a blog by Brett Johnson – internal recruiter at the Cabinet Office – a number of roles will be advertised.
