RGF slow to release cash

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has accused the government’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF) of failing to deliver on job creation, allocating money too slowly through restrictive channels despite the need to act quickly to support the creation of private sector jobs.

In a report published last week, PAC found that the RGF had “too few staff” with the necessary skills to process bids and finalise contracts. The result was that two years in, only 88 out of 236 offers of funding have been processed and £60m has been allocated to companies.
