Government reshuffle

UK Government

  • Cabinet Office: Civil Service Commission – Elizabeth Walmsley, Stephen Cohen, Christopher Pilgrim and Atul Devani appointed as commissioners for five years from 3 October 2022. 
  • Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – Ailsa Terry appointed as high commissioner to Malaysia from July 2023, succeeding Charles Hay MVO who will be transferring to another diplomatic service appointment. Jill Morris CMG appointed as His Majesty's ambassador to the Republic of Türkiye from January 2023, succeeding Sir Dominick Chilcott KCMG who will be retiring from the diplomatic service. 
  • Department for International Trade: UK Export Finance – Samir Parkash appointed as interim chief executive. 
  • Department for Transport: Maritime and Coastguard Agency – Damien Oliver appointed as interim chief executive from 17 October. 
  • HM Treasury: UK Government Investments – Andrew Ballheimer, Kalpana Desair and Mahnaz Safa appointed to the board as non-executive directors for three years until 21 September 2025. 

Houses of Parliament

House of Lords 

  • The Bishop of Leicester joined the House of Lords on 6 October. 
  • Nick Markham raised to the peerage as Lord Markham on 7 October. He will be introduced to the House of Lords on 10 October. 

Devolved administrations

Northern Ireland Executive 

  • Andrew Magowan and Jim McCooe appointed as non-executive directors to the Departmental Board and members of the Departmental Audit and Risk Assurance Committee for three years. Jim McCooe will also chair the Departmental Audit and Risk Assurance Committee. 
  • Paul Mageean re-appointment as chief parole commissioner for Northern Ireland. 
  • Probation Board for Northern Ireland – Eileen Patterson appointed as deputy chair until 28 February 2025. 
  • Public Health Agency for Northern Ireland – Craig Blaney appointed as non-executive sirector until 31 July 2026.

  • Windsor and Maidenhead Council – Tony Reeves appointed as interim chief executive.

  • Whitehall & Industry Group – Vicky Browning appointed as interim chief executive from 10 October. 
  • Young Enterprise Scotland – Emma Soanes appointed as chief executive.
