UK government

Prime Minister's Office: cabinet committees

  • Economic Affairs Committee (EAC) – Liz Truss appointed as chair; Therese Coffey, Kwasi Kwarteng, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Simon Clarke, Ranil Jayawardena and Chris Philp appointed as members. 
  • Foreign Policy and Security Council – Liz Truss appointed as chair; Therese Coffey, Kwasi Kwarteng, James Cleverly, Suella Braverman, Ben Wallace, Nadhim Zahawi, Michael Ellis and Tom Tugendhat appointed as members. 
  • Foreign Policy and Security Council sub-committee: nuclear deterrence and security – Liz Truss appointed as chair; Kwasi Kwarteng, James Cleverly, Suella Braverman, Ben Wallace and Jacob Rees-Mogg appointed as members. 
  • Home Affairs Committee – Therese Coffey appointed as chair; Kwasi Kwarteng, Suella Braverman, Brandon Lewis, Nadhim Zahawi, Simon Clarke, Chloe Smith, Kit Malthouse, Chris Heaton-Harris, Alister Jack, Robert Buckland and Michael Ellis appointed as members. 
  • Climate Action Implementation Committee – Alok Sharma appointed as chair; Kwasi Kwarteng, James Cleverly, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Simon Clarke, Kemi Badenoch, Chloe Smith, Ranil Jayawardena and Anne-Marie Trevelyan appointed as members. 
  • Parliamentary Business and Legislation Committee – Penny Mordaunt appointed as chair; Lord True, Chris Heaton-Harris, Alister Jack, Robert Buckland, Wendy Morton, Chris Philp, Michael Ellis, Edward Argar, Lord Stewart of Dirleton and Baroness Williams of Trafford appointed as members. 

Other departments

  • Cabinet Office: House of Lords Appointments Commission – Baroness Taylor of Bolton appointed as Labour Party Member. 

Houses of Parliament

House of Commons 

  • Rupa Huq administratively suspended by the Labour Party and Labour whip suspended. She now sits as an independent MP. 
  • Election of the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee – Nominations are open until Tuesday 11 October. If there is only one candidate, the speaker is likely to announce the result that day. If there is more than one candidate a ballot will take place on Wednesday 12 October. The speaker will announce the results in the chamber later that day. Current nominees are: Iain Duncan Smith, Alicia Kearns 
  • Election of the chair of the Science and Technology Committee – Nominations are open until Tuesday 11 October. If there is only one candidate, the speaker is likely to announce the result that day. If there is more than one candidate a ballot will take place on Wednesday 12 October. The speaker will announce the results in the chamber later that day. Current nominee is: Greg Clark 

House of Lords 

  • Lord Sheikh (Conservative, life peer) died on 22 September. 

Devolved administrations

Scottish Parliament 

  • Parliamentary Bureau – Alexander Burnett added; Stephen Kerr discharged. 
  • Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee – Edward Mountain appointed as convener. 
  • Economy and Fair Work Committee – Graham Simpson added; Alexander Burnett discharged. 
  • Education, Children and Young People Committee – Stephen Kerr added; Oliver Mundell discharged. 
  • Delegated Powers and Law Reform Committee – Oliver Mundell added; Graham Simpson discharged. 

Welsh Government 

  • Flood and Coastal Erosion Committee – Martin Buckle re-appointed as chair for three years until August 2025. 
  • Powys Teaching Health Board – Carl Cooper selected as the preferred candidate for chair from 17 October, subject to the relevant pre-employment security checks; Professor Vivienne Harpwood’s tenure as chair has been extended until 16 October. 

Northern Ireland Executive 

  • Health and Social Care Pension Board – Paul Cummings appointed as independent chair until 30 June 2026. 
  • Northern Health and Social Care Trust – Billy Graham's term as non-executive (lay) director has been extended until 20 April 2023. 
  • Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland – Dr Geraldine O'Hare appointed as president from 1 November until 31 October 2026.

  • Bolton Council – Sue Johnson appointed as chief executive. 
  • South Derbyshire District Council – Frank McArdle is to retire as chief executive after leading the authority for 23 years.
