Houses of Parliament

  • House of Lords: Lord Lilley (Conservative) and Lord McCrea of Magherafelt and Cookstown (DUP) were introduced to the House on 26 June; Lord Pickles (Conservative) and Baroness Sater (Conservative) were introduced to the House on 25 June.

Government departments

  • Cabinet secretary and head of the civil service Jeremy Heywood to take medical leave for three months, Mark Sedwill will replace him while remaining as national security adviser.
  • Home Office: Tom Pursglove and Rachel Maclean appointed as PPS to the secretary of state and the ministerial team respectively.
  • Department for International Trade: Michelle Donelan appointed as PPS to the secretary of state; Natalie Black appointed as HM trade commissioner for Asia Pacific.
  • Attorney General’s Office: Alex Burghart appointed as PPS to the attorney general.
  • Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Animal and Plant Health Agency – Andrew Soldan appointed as veterinary director; Marine Management Organisation – Belinda Howell and Rob Wilson and William Roberts appointed as members of the board.
  • Ministry of Justice: Law Commission – Nicholas Green appointed as chair from 1 August.
  • Department for Culture, Media and Sport: Victoria and Albert Museum – Caroline Silver and Mark Sebba reappointed to the board of trustees; British Library – Carol Black to become chair on 1 September.
  • Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government: Bridget Rosewell to chair the Independent Review into Planning Appeal Inquiries.

Scottish Government reshuffle: Cabinet

  • Shona Robinson stood down as Health and Sport Secretary.
  • Keith Brown stood down as Economy, Jobs and Fair Work Secretary.
  • Angela Constance stood down as Communities, Social Security and Equalities Secretary.
  • Jeane Freeman appointed Health and Sport Secretary (formerly Social Security Minister).
  • Derek Mackay appointed Finance, Economy and Fair Work Secretary (formerly Finance and Constitution Secretary).
  • Aileen Campbell appointed Communities and Local Government Secretary (formerly Public Health and Sport Minister).
  • Humza Yousaf appointed Justice Secretary (formerly Minister for Transport and the Islands).
  • Michael Matheson appointed Transport Infrastructure and Connectivity Secretary (formerly Justice Secretary).
  • Shirley-Anne Somerville has been appointed Social Security and Older People Secretary (formerly Further Education, Higher Education and Science Minister).

  • Ben MacPherson appointed Europe, Migration and International Development Minister.
  • Paul Wheelhouse has been appointed Energy, Connectivity and the Islands Minister (formerly Business, Innovation and Energy Minister).
  • Joe FitzPatrick appointed Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing Minister (formerly Parliamentary Business Minister).
  • Jamie Hepburn appointed Business, Fair Work and Skills Minister (formerly Employability and Training Minister).

  • Mark McDonald (Independent, Aberdeen Donside) to be excluded for a month from the Parliament after the summer recess.

  • Charles Wallace appointed as the Scottish Veterans Commissioner, starting in the autumn.

Northern Ireland Assembly

  • David Ford to retire as Alliance MLA for South Antrim on 1 July, replaced by John Blair.

Local authorities: by-election results 28 June

  • Leicestershire Council – Tom Barkley elected for Syston Ridgeway – Conservative hold. (David Slater died).
  • North Kesteven Council – Stephen Roe elected for North Hykeham Mill - Conservative hold. (Andrea Clarke resigned).
  • North Kesteven Council – Richard Johnston elected for Skellingthorpe - Lincolnshire Independents gain from Independent. (Shirley Pannell resigned).
  • North Devon Council –Jayne Mackie elected for Fremington – Independent gain from Independent. (Tony Wood died).

Trade unions

  • Usdaw – Paddy Lillis replaced John Hannett as general secretary.

  • Amazon Operations Europe – Stuart Jackson named as director of communications.
