94% of public sector workers report improved wellbeing as 10 Peaks Challenge returns

With growing participation and measurable wellbeing gains, CSSC’s Active Wellbeing Challenge returns in May with a virtual 10 Peaks event, inviting public sector staff to boost activity, motivation and team cohesion

In 2025, 94% of participating Public Sector workers reported that the Active Wellbeing Challenge motivated them to be more active and value their wellbeing. Come May, CSSC which hosts the challenge, is encouraging people to get involved and feel the benefits for themselves with its virtual 10 Peaks Challenge taking place 18-31 May.

Last year, 35,000 colleagues from across the public sector were given a Nudge to Budge, and joined together to compete in various physical missions, from an Around-The-World Challenge to an Around Europe-Challenge.

The results spoke for themselves: 73% of participants reported improved focus, attention and teamwork, 70% said they got active over five times a week during the challenge, and 76% of HR leads agreed that Active Wellbeing supported team and individual wellbeing.

As the UK’s largest physical activity and wellbeing campaign, Active Wellbeing is designed to remove barriers around exercise, movement and wellbeing for people within the Civil Service and public sectors. The challenges themselves are set to be manageable for everyone, no matter their level of activity or how busy their schedule is.

Using the Personify™ app, team mates can log and monitor their own step activity, as well as viewing a leaderboard which keeps a track of competing team’s achievements, adding that extra bit of motivation as teams compete to finish first.

Alex Game, a civil servant who has taken part in three Active Wellbeing challenges in the past, spoke on the positive impact he has felt in his work and personal life:

“I remember the first time I took part in an Active Wellbeing Challenge - I was already a keen cyclist, but the competition element meant I had to up my game. At the start it was tough, but by day eight I could already feel my fitness had improved.

“I seem to always be a part of a pretty competitive team which works really well for my motivation - we keep each other accountable and encourage each other to keep going and hit those milestones.

“The good thing is, it’s all a laugh - no one is made to feel bad if they can’t get out or  have done less than someone else. In the Civil Service we’re all very busy all the time, so we have to have each other’s back, and during Active Wellbeing this sense of community is amplified.

“One of the biggest bonuses for me was that my family got behind me and even joined me to help rack up the miles. My 16-year-old twins have joined me many times: quality family time, some exercise and getting in amongst nature - it’s easy to see why I enjoy the challenges so much!”

Sign up now and create or join a team before 15th May to take part in the Ten Peak Challenge 18-31st May.
