An online tool enabling taxpayers to track departmental expenditure has been launched by Cabinet Office Minister Chloë Smith.

“Greater transparency can help us identify wasteful spending,” said Smith, lauding GIST as an “easy-to-use, interactive tool that gives the public the chance to compare data in a smart and intuitive format.”

Meanwhile, the Department for International Development has launched a similar tool providing data on its aid projects.

GIST is at www.gist.cabinetoffice.gov.uk, and DfID’s tool is at www.devtracker.dfid.gov.uk
