Government departments

  • Home Office: Police Remuneration Review Body and National Crime Agency Remuneration Review Body - Anita Bharucha appointed as chair of both bodies.
  • Department for Work and Pensions: BPDTS Ltd - Katie Kapernaros and John Osmond have been appointed to the BPDTS board.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Neil Wigan has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the State of Israel in succession to David Quarrey from June; Ben Fender has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Somalia; Colin Martin-Reynolds has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Colombia.
  • Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Adaptation Sub-Committee of the Committee on Climate Change - Richard Dawson appointed as a member and Rosalyn Schofield and Ece Ozdemiroglu reappointed.
  • Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport: National Gallery Board – Douglas Gurr appointed as a trustee; Information Commissioner's Office:  Peter Hustinx appointed as a non-executive director.
  • Department for Education: Education and Skills Funding Agency – Irene Lucas named as management board chair.
  • Department of Health and Social Care: Care Quality Commission - Kate Terroni to become Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care in May, replacing Debbie Westhead who had been in the role on an interim basis.
  • Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government: Michael Jary appointed as lead non-executive director.

Non-Ministerial Departments

  • Serious Fraud Office – John Kietly appointed as chief intelligence officer, and Liz Corrin to become head of corporate services on 1 April.

House of Lords

  • Lord Smith of Clifton (Liberal Democrat, life peer) retired 31 January.
  • Lord Cullen of Whitekirk (Crossbench, life peer) retired 1 February.
  • Nicola Blackwood joined the House of Lords as Baroness Blackwood of North Oxford (Conservative, life peer).

Devolved Authorities

 

  • Scottish Government: Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland - Caroline Anderson named as the new commissioner, replacing Bill Thomson on 31 March.
  • Northern Ireland Government: Police Service of Northern Ireland – George Hamilton to retire as chief constable in June.

Local Authorities

  • By-election Results 31 January: Surrey County Council – Becky Rush elected for Warlingham – Conservative hold. (David Hodge resigned); City of London Corporation – Bronek Masojada elected for Billingsgate – Independent gain from Independent. (Matthew Richardson retired).

  • Citizens Advice: Rebecca Woolley joined as director of Wales.
  • Barnardo’s: Wendy Becker to stand down as Chair and John Bartlett to take the role on an interim basis.
  • Great Ormond St Hospital Children's Charity: Louise Parkes appointed as chief executive, replacing Tim Johnson in May.
