The Home Office has announced that Paul Lincoln will become the new director general of Border Force from September, when current DG Sir Charles Montgomery steps down.
Lincoln has served as director general of the department’s Crime, Policing and Fire Group since April last year, following spells as national security director and acting director general in the Office of Security and Counter Terrorism.
Home Office permanent secretary Philip Rutnam said Lincoln had “done a tremendous job” in leading CPFG over the past year, during which time he had overseen its reform work on police, fire and rescue services, as well as on cutting crime and maintaining public safety.

“We would like to thank Paul for his leadership in this area and look forward to working with him as director general for Border Force,” he said.
Border Force is responsible for keeping UK borders secure by carrying out immigration and customs controls for people and goods entering the UK.
It was part of the UK Border Agency until 2012, but is now a law enforcement command within the Home Office.
Montgomery has led Border Force since 2013, following a four-decade career in the Royal Navy.
The Home Office said he would leave the role in September.
Prior to joining the Home Office in 2014, Lincoln – pictured left – held a number of senior Ministry of Defence roles, including head of defence resources.
He was also policy adviser to the UK's senior military commander in Iraq from 2006 to 2007.
