Downing Street has appointed the co-founder of grassroots campaign group The Dad Shift as its adviser on digital communications processes and strategy.
Alex Lloyd Hunter set up The Dad Shift in 2024 alongside George Gabriel to push for better paternity leave in the UK. In 2015 he co-founded the Forward Action organisation, which helps charities build digital mobilisation programmes.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Lloyd Hunter will “carry out a review that will set out a strategy for a No.10 digital operation”.
“Alex brings with him extensive experience working in digital communications and strategy,” No.10 said.
According to his LinkedIn profile, in addition to The Dad Shift and Forward Action, Lloyd Hunter also set up the Modern Change consultancy to help “progressive” organisations tackle burnout, harness artificial intelligence, and “equip themselves to meet the future head on”.
Elsewhere, Lloyd Hunter’s CV also includes a stint working for the Labour Party’s digital organising team in the weeks leading up to 2024’s general election. His LinkedIn profile says he “helped deliver Labour's SMS mobilisation programme and optimised conversion rates on volunteer recruitment and turnout platforms”.
Additionally, Lloyd Hunter worked for the Labour Party between 2013 and 2015, when he ran the party’s digital testing and analytics programme, before moving on to lead its email team in the run up to the 2015 general election.
The team was responsible for Labour's online fundraising and volunteer-recruitment work.
His appointment was announced yesterday, shortly after No.10 appointed former BBC executive Gautam Rangarajan as “expert adviser on structure and process”.
