The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology is recruiting for a job-share partner to co-lead the reformed UK Space Agency.

The agency was absorbed into DSIT earlier this month, with chief executive Paul Bates stepping down and Rebecca Evernden taking over as director of UKSA.

The job ad seeks a job-share partner for Evernden, whose  previous roles include policy director and international director at the UKSA. She has also worked at the Department for Exiting the European Union, Department for Transport, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Cabinet Office.

A pro-rata salary of £100,000 to £163,000 is on offer for the SCS pay band 2 role. Existing civil servants applying on promotion will be appointed to the salary band minimum or with an increase of 10% of their existing salary, whichever is greater. Individuals appointed on level transfer will retain their existing salary.

The role has a minimum assignment duration of three years.

Alexandra Jones, DSIT’s director general for growth, science and international, said the opportunity is “particularly compelling” due to the “breadth of influence and responsibility”.

“The director will shape the UK's civil space strategy, oversee major national and international programmes, and ensure that space capabilities deliver tangible benefits for the economy, public services, security, and global partnerships,” she said. “In short, this is a rare opportunity to lead a national agency with global reach and significance.”

She said the department is seeking a leader with “the vision, credibility, and resilience to operate at the highest levels”.

The deadline for applications is 11:55 pm on Thursday 30th April 2026.
