New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues at Dods People

Government departments

  • Cabinet Office – William Shawcross CVO appointed as commissioner for public appointments for five years from 1 October.
  • Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport: National Portrait Gallery – Inaya Folarin Iman and Simon Sebag Montefiore appointed as trustees for four years from 1 August to 31 July 2025.
  • Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Agriculture and Horticulture Development – Sarah Bell, Stephen Briggs, Colin Bateman, Lyndon Edwards and Dr Catherine Mackenzie appointed as board members for three years from 13 September. Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew – Krishnan Guru-Murthy re-appointed to the board for three years from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2024.
  • Department for International Trade – Emma Wade-Smith OBE appointed as Her Majesty’s Cconsul general to New York and Her Majesty’s trade commissioner for North America from November, replacing Antony Phillipson.
  • Competition and Markets Authority – Dr Jenny Haydock appointed as deputy chief economic adviser from 1 October.

  • Andy McDonald MP resigned as shadow secretary of state for employment rights and protections.
  • National Executive Committee – Alice Perry elected chair; Johanna Baxter elected vice-chair.

Green Party

  • Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay elected as co-leaders.

Scottish Parliament

  • Citizen Participation and Public Petitions Committee – Alexander Stewart added as a member; Tess White discharged.
  • Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee – Maurice Golden added as a member; Sue Webber discharged.
  • Health, Social Care and Sport Committee – Sue Webber added as a member; Annie Wells discharged.
  • Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee – Tess White added as a member; Alexander Stewart discharged.

  • Qualifications Wales Board – Julie Brannan appointed as a member for three years from 1 September. John Latham appointed as a member for three years from 7 December.
