The average salary for senior civil servants is lower in London than in the rest of England, according to new figures published by the Cabinet Office.
New stats just released show that as of March 2025 the median salary for senior civil servants in England was £91,860 when including London, and £92,580 when excluding London-based roles.
SCS is the only grade where this is the case – and is also the only grade where there is no London weighting – although there are two grades where the median is the same when including and excluding London: administrative assistant and executive officer.
Under both metrics, AAs and EOs earned a median salary of £27,840 and £30,980 respectively.
At the five other civil service grades the median salary was higher when including London, as the table below shows.

The average across all employees remains higher when including London (£35,900), compared to when excluding it (£33,250).
