The Ministry of Defence is seeking a senior manager to help boost the “cyber awareness, behaviours and culture” across the department and the wider sector.
The MoD is offering a salary of £70,540 for a new recruit to fill the role of deputy head of cyber security awareness – a role which sits within the Defence Digital unit.
The field covered by the post – that of awareness, behaviours, and culture – represents “a foundational protection in cyber defence” for the ministry, according to the job advert.
The ultimate “ambition is that [the] MoD will have the best cybersecurity culture across UK government”.
The new recruit will “be responsible for driving the necessary behavioural change programme” to meet this objective, including work to “define, coordinate and produce effective awareness and training material for different audiences across defence”.
“Our people are regarded as the real first line of defence in cyber and information security,” the advert adds. “With many personnel within defence and the extended enterprise, including veterans, families and suppliers, cyber awareness is one of the most critical cyber defences.”
Key responsibilities of the position include a remit to “develop and lead a defence-wide cyber awareness, behaviours, and culture campaign, with the objective of upskilling the entire workforce, so they have a positive impact on MD’s ability to manage its cyber risks”.
This will include the “development of cyber-awareness mandatory training, including the interactive elements, such as phishing tests”.
The deputy head will also “oversee production of exciting, novel and engaging cyber awareness material, targeted at different audiences across defence, including videos, e-learning, posters and general communication”.
These efforts will involve the use of “multiple sources of information to identify and maintain insight on the key areas of focus, for awareness and behavioural change”.
The post – which can be based in ministry headquarters in London, its outpost in Corsham, or RAF Wyton in Huntingdon – will also require the chosen applicant to line manage a dedicated cyber-awareness team.
This work will be expected to help the ministry “maximise benefits delivered and the return on investment” from its cyber-awareness agenda – which the chosen candidate should help to measure via the development of key performance indicators.
“[In this role], you’ll work with internal and external stakeholders, including security policy teams, other government departments and industry partners, to develop and implement strategy, to ensure that the cybersecurity awareness and behaviours of MoD personnel are more than a match for the threats we face,” the advert adds. “This is an exciting role, in which you’ll liaise with all teams across defensive cyber, and wider security teams in defence, to build cyber skills.”
Applications close on 4 June.
