Sir Patrick Brown appointed as chair of the Oil and Gas Authority

Former permanent secretary for the Department for Transport Sir Patrick Brown has been appointed as the Oil and Gas Authority’s first chairperson.

Brown, who has worked for both the Department for Transport and the Department of the Environment and is currently the director of Camelot UK Lotteries Ltd, will take up the role on 16 March.

Announcing the appointment, Energy secretary Ed Davey said: “Sir Patrick brings a wealth of experience to this role and his appointment is another step forward in getting the OGA up and running at a crucial time for the North Sea industry which plays a vital role in protecting the UK’s energy security.”

Sir Patrick said of his appointment: “I’m very pleased to be joining the OGA and look forward to working with Andy Samuel to make sure the oil and gas industry is in the best possible shape for the future.”
