New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues at Dods People

Government departments

  • Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – Pete Vowles has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in succession to Dan Chugg.
  • Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy: Financial Reporting Council – Sarah Rapson to become the new Executive Director of Supervision from September.
  • Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport – Laurence Geller has been appointed as a ministerial adviser on concussion in sport.
  • Department for Transport: Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency – Nick Bitel named as Non-Executive Chair, replacing Shrinivas Honap who had been in the role on an interim basis.
  • Ministry of Justice: Family Procedure Rule Committee  Robert Edwards reappointed as the Welsh/Cymru Cafcass nominated member.
  • Department for Work and Pensions: Social Security Advisory Committee – Matthew Doyle appointed to the committee.
  • Government Actuary's Department – Les Philpott named as Non-executive Director and Chair of the Management Board.

Ombudsmen

  • Pensions Ombudsman – Anthony Arter will continue in his role as the Pensions Ombudsman for another year.

  • Baroness Davidson of Lundin Links was introduced to the house as a Conservative life peer.

  • Alistair Carmichael to be interim Leader during the leadership election.

Devolved authorities

Welsh Government

  • Estyn – Owen Evans to replace Meilyr Rowlands Chief Inspector in January, Rowlands retires at the end of August and Claire Morgan will take the role on an interim basis.

Local authorities

  • Denbighshire County Council – Graham Boase to become Chief Executive in August.
