Ministerial appointments:

  • Alan Campbell, leader of the House of Commons and lord president of the council, appointed to the cabinet.
  • Angela Eagle appointed as minister of state for security, jointly in the Home Office and the Cabinet Office; previously minister of state for food security and rural affairs, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
  • Stephen Morgan appointed as minister of state in the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs; previously government whip (junior lord of the Treasury).
  • Louise Sandher-Jones appointed as minister for the Armed Forces in the Ministry of Defence; previously minister for veterans and people.
  • Calvin Bailey appointed minister for veterans and people in the Ministry of Defence; previously trade envoy to southern and South Africa.
  • Jade Botterill appointed as government whip (junior lord of the Treasury); previously assistant government whip.
  • Emma Foody appointed as assistant whip; previously PPS in the Department for Education.
  • Lord Leong appointed as parliamentary under-secretary of state, Department of Business and Trade; government whip (lord in waiting).
  • Lord Lemos appointed as parliamentary under-secretary of state, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government; previously government whip (lord in waiting).
  • Lord Collins of Highbury appointed as parliamentary secretary and remains as deputy leader of the House of Lords; previously government whip (lord in waiting).
  • Baroness Ramsey of Wall Heath appointed as government whip (baroness in waiting); previously trade envoy to Horn of Africa.
  • Baroness Curran appointed as Government Whip (baroness in waiting) and Government Spokesperson for Scotland and Wales.
  • Baroness Lloyd of Effra no longer parliamentary under-secretary of state for digital economy in the Department for Business and Trade and government whip (baroness in waiting); continues as parliamentary under-secretary of state for digital economy, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
  • Baroness Anderson of Stoke-on-Trent, Baroness Taylor of Stevenage and Baroness Twycross no longer government whips (baronesses in waiting).

Prime minister's Office: Privy Council – Dan Jarvis (secretary of state for fefence) appointed as a privy counsellor on 15 June. Trinity College Cambridge – Professor Sir David Charles Baulcombe appointed master, succeeding Professor Dame Sally Davies later this year.

Department for Business and Trade – Calvin Bailey no longer trade envoy to southern and South Africa. Dan Carden no longer trade envoy to Mexico. Baroness Ramsey of Wall Heath no longer trade envoy to Horn of Africa.

Cabinet Office – Fiona Cannon announced as preferred candidate for commissioner for public appointments, subject to pre-appointment scrutiny by the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee.

Department for Culture, Media and Sport: Victoria and Albert Museum Board – Professor Rosalind Polly Blakesley re-appointed as Trustee from 5 September until 4 September 2030.

Ministry of Defence – Pam Cox and Chris Kane appointed as PPSs.

Department for Education – Laurence Turner appointed as PPS.

Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – William Longhurst appointed as chargé d’affaires to the Republic of Belarus from July, succeeding David Ward who is transferring to another appointment in the Diplomatic Service. Paul Simister appointed as ambassador to the Republic of Liberia from June, succeeding Neil Bradley who has transferred to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Peter Vowles appointed as British high commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria from September, succeeding Dr Richard Montgomery. Olivia Ricketts appointed as ambassador to the Swiss Confederation and non-resident ambassador to the Principality of Liechtenstein from January 2027, succeeding James Squire. Belinda Lewis appointed as governor of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha from September, succeeding Nigel Phillips who will be retiring from the Diplomatic Service.

Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government: Greater Cambridge Development Corporation – David Hill appointed as the first chief executive from September.

Ministry of Justice: Tribunal Procedure Committee – Matt Jackson re-appointed as member from 7 November until 6 November 2029.

Northern Ireland Office: Independent Reporting Commission – Mitchell B Reiss re-appointed as UK commissioner from 1 October until 31 March 2027.

HM Treasury: Crown Estate Board – Dan Labbad re-appointed as chief executive and second commissioner for four years from 1 January 2028; Anne Kavanagh and Clare Shine re-appointed as board members for four years.

Department for Work and Pensions: Pensions Regulator – Ben Gunnee appointed as executive director for market oversight and member of the board. Tracey McDermott and Chris Hitchen appointed zs non-executive directors.

Houses of Parliament

House of Commons

  • Aberdeen South by-election result: Douglas Lumsden won the seat for the Conservatives with a majority of 6,050 on 18 June. The turnout was 38%.
  • Arbroath and Broughty Ferry by-election result: Lara Bird held the seat for the Scottish National Party with a majority of 5,278 on 18 June. The turnout was 31%.
  • Makerfield by-election result: Andy Burnham held the seat for Labour with a majority of 9,231 on 18 June. The turnout was 59%.
  • Cameron Thomas, MP for Tewkesbury, suspended by the Liberal Democrats, now sits as an Independent.
  • Jessica Morden received a DBE as part of the Birthday Honours 2026.

House of Lords

  • Lord Ravensdale (CB, former hereditary peer) created a life peer as Baron Ravensdale of Little Eaton on 12 June.
  • Viscount Camrose (Con, former hereditary peer) created a life peer as Baron Berry on 12 June.
  • Lord Grantchester (Lab, former hereditary peer) created a life peer as Baron Grantchester of Audlem on 15 June.
  • Lord Reay (Con, former hereditary peer) created a life peer as Baron Reay of Reay on 15 June.
  • Lord Harlech (Con, former hereditary peer) created a life peer as Baron Harlech of Glyn Cywarch on 16 June.
  • Lord Londesborough (CB, former hereditary peer) created a life peer as Baron Londesborough of Richmond Hill on 16 June.
  • Lord Camoys (Con, former hereditary peer) created a life peer as Baron Stonor, of Henley-on-Thames in the County of Oxfordshire on 17 June 2026.

Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland – David Hall and Cindy Mackie terms as board members extended for seven months until 30 November.

Scottish Law Commission – Lord Sandison appointed as chair for five years until 4 May 2031.

sportscotland – Andrew Bain and Steven Sweeney re-appointed as members for four years from 1 January 2027 until 31 December 2030.
