The Northern Ireland Civil Service has launched a mass recruitment campaign for 500 “executive officer 2” roles across a number of departments and agencies.
The jobs come with a starting salary of £30,458-£31,097 and are available in a range of locations at organisations, including the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs' portal operations branch, which involve helping to deliver port inspections on animals and goods.
There are also roles on offer at the NI Courts and Tribunals Service and the NI Prison Service. The advert says the majority of NICTS positions are wholly court based and not suitable for remote working.
The advert also says that further appointments may be made from this competition should NICS positions become vacant which require the same eligibility criteria and have similar duties and responsibilities.
The job pack says: "This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a first level management role and make an impact on people’s lives”.
The advert says some of the key duties for EO2 staff are:
- Customer services work, where there is a need communicate effectively in writing, by telephone or face to face with customers, members of the public, staff and senior management;
- Service delivery – ensuring that work is completed in accordance with branch instructions, targets and standards;
- Contacts and communications – responsibility for decision making. May also involve the scrutiny of material, determining evidence requirements and ensuring all adequate evidence is gathered to enable the correct decision to be made in accordance with policies and procedures; and
- Line management responsibility for day-to-day management of staff in the administrative officer and administrative assistant grades, including the allocation and monitoring of work and the provision of information and guidance.
Applicants are asked to choose up to three travel to work areas they are prepared to work in from the list below. They will only be considered for a post in one of their selected areas.
- Area 1: Belfast – Belfast, Lisburn, Bangor, Antrim, Downpatrick, Larne
- Area 2: Derry/Londonderry – Derry/Londonderry, Ballykelly, Limavady
- Area 3: Craigavon – Craigavon, Armagh, Portadown
- Area 4: Coleraine – Coleraine, Ballymoney
- Area 5: Omagh and Strabane – Omagh, Strabane
- Area 6: Newry and Banbridge – Newry, Banbridge
- Area 7: Ballymena – Ballymena
- Area 8: Cookstown and Magherafelt – Cookstown, Magherafelt
- Area 9: Dungannon –Dungannon
- Area 10: Enniskillen – Enniskillen
The advert says applications from people under the age of 35, people with a disability and people from minority ethnic communities “are particularly welcomed”. NICS also offers a guaranteed interview scheme for disabled applicants as part of its commitment to equality of opportunity. The job pack adds that all applications for employment are considered strictly on the basis of merit.
The closing date for applications is noon on Friday 29 August.
