UK government 

  • Cabinet Office – Fiona Cannon appointed as commissioner for public appointments for five years from 9 July, succeeding Sir William Shawcross
  • Department for Culture, Media and Sport – Royal Museums Greenwich Board: Alexandra Butler, Sanjeev Gupta and Marshall Manson appointed as trustees for four years until 30 June 2030; Clare Anderson reappointed as history trustee until 5 June 2030; Stephen Deuchar reappointed as arts and heritage trustee until 5 June 2030; Lance Batchelor reappointed as Navy and business trustee until 5 June 2031
  • Ministry of Defence – Lt Gen Nick Perry to stand down as UK chief of joint operations in September. Royal Air Force Museum: Caroline Rolfe appointed as Royal Air Force Museum board trustee until 19 January 2029
  • Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – Alastair King-Smith appointed as His Majesty’s ambassador to the Czech Republic from January 2027, succeeding Matthew Field who will be transferring to another diplomatic service appointment. Geraldine McCafferty appointed as His Majesty’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates from August, succeeding Edward Hobart who will be leaving the diplomatic service
  • Department of Health and Social Care – British Pharmacopoeia Commission: Dr Anna-Maria Brady reappointed as chair for two years from 1 October
  • Home Office – Sir Andy Marsh announced as the government’s preferred candidate for HM chief inspector of constabulary in England and Wales and chief inspector of fire and rescue in England, subject to pre-appointment scrutiny by the Home Affairs Select Committee on 14 July
  • Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government – Homes England: Melanie Montanari appointed as chief operating officer from 7 September
  • HM Treasury – Bank of England: Rhys Phillips appointed as chief cashier and director of notes from 19 October. Government Actuary’s Department: Liz Thornhill reappointed as non-executive director for three years until November 2029. Office for Budget Responsibility: Prof David Miles nominated for reappointment as member of the Budget Responsibility Committee, subject to approval of the Treasury Committee. UK Government Investments: Dr Vanessa Lawrence reappointed as non-executive director from 26 September until 25 March 2029; Andrew Halford reappointed as non-executive director from 17 October until 16 October 2029; Iain Mackay reappointed as non-executive director from 1 November until 30 April 2030

Houses of Parliament 

House of Commons

  • Nigel Farage announced his intention to stand down as MP for Clacton and was appointed as Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead on 8 July. He intends to stand in the by-election to elect a new member – the date is still to be announced
  • Committees: Scottish Affairs – Douglas Lumsden added; Jack Rankin discharged

House of Lords 

  • Lord Livingston of Parkhead was non-affiliated, now sits as a crossbencher
  • Committees: Ecclesiastical – Lord Howard of Rising and Baroness Prentis of Banbury added. Numeracy for Life – Baroness Shawcross-Wolfson added; Baroness Spielman discharged. Secondary Legislation Scrutiny – Baroness Dacres of Lewisham added; Lord Pitkeathley of Camden Town discharged. Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments – Baroness Hunter of Auchenreoch added; Lord Young of Norwood Green discharged

  • Sarah Horan appointed as chief midwifery officer from September, succeeding Gillian Morton. 
  • NHS Orkney – Hayley Green, Michael Morrison and Lynne Spence appointed as board members for four years from 20 July until 19 July 2030
  • Zero Waste Scotland – Seigo Robinson and Amitoj Singh reappointed as board members until 21 February 2030

Welsh Parliament 

  • Chairs' Forum – Huw Irranca-Davies appointed as chair; Zaynub Akbar, Jayne Bryant, Carmelo Colasanto, Sarah Cooper-Lesadd, James Evans, Sera Evans, Andrew Griffin, Carrie Harper, Lis McLean, Jason O'Connell, Mair Rowlands, Sam Rowlands, Elwyn Vaughan and Lindsay Whittle appointed as members

Welsh Government 

  • Jonathan Lewis appointed as chair of expert panel designing a new economic development agency

  • Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland – Gerard (Gerry) Guckian appointed as independent chair from 3 July until 2 July 2030
  • South West Regional College – Dr Frances Campbell and Brian Ingram reappointed as members of the governing body for four years
