Appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via Dods People

UK government

  • Cabinet Office – Sir Chris Wormald stood down as cabinet secretary and head of the civil service on 12 February; in the interim the responsibilities of the cabinet secretary will be shared by Cat Little, permanent secretary at the Cabinet Office; Dame Antonia Romeo, permanent secretary at the Home Office; and James Bowler, permanent secretary at HM Treasury. Infected Blood Memorial Committee – Joan Edgington stood down as vice-chair for personal reasons.
  • Department for Culture, Media and Sport: Advisory Council on National Records and Archives – Eleni Bide and Johanna Higgins appointed as members for four years until 21 January 2030; Dr Nigel Fletcher, Sir David Natzler and Jonathan Scherbel-Ball re-appointed for four years as members until 16 January 2030. Imperial War Museum – Sir William Worsley appointed as estates trustee for four years until 31 January 2030; Rear Admiral Jeremy Bailey appointed as navy trustee for four years until 31 January 2030; Samantha Washington appointed as media trustee for four years from 16 March until 15 March 2030. National Museums Liverpool Board – Peter Duffy, Lord Grantchester, Sue Harris and Nigel Lowe appointed as trustees until 18 January 2030; Michelle Cox, Kathryn Luke and Clare Milsom appointed as trustees from 1 May until 30 April 2030. Royal Parks – Michael Eldridge, Lorna Parker and Ruth Willmott appointed as board trustees for four years from 1 March; Justine Simons appointed as board trustee for four years from 15 March. Visit England – Richard Morsley and Rachel Walter appointed as advisory board members for five years.
  • Department for Education: Student Loans Company – Gary Page appointed as chair from 1 April.
  • Ministry of Justice: Prisons and Probation Ombudsman – Adrian Usher re-appointed as prisons and probation ombudsman for three years from 24 April. Youth Justice Board – Phil Bowen appointed interim chair.
  • Department for Transport: Air Accidents Investigation Branch – Robert Balls appointed as chief inspector.
  • HM Treasury – Professor Brian Bell appointed as chief economic advisor to the Treasury and head of the Government Economic Service.
  • Department for Work and Pensions – Peter Schofield to stand down as permanent secretary in July.

Armed Forces Bill – Clive Efford appointed as chair; Luke Akehurst, Alex Ballinger, Sarah Bool, Juliet Campbell, Al Carns, Pam Cox, Paul Foster, Mark Francois, Gerald Jones, Jayne Kirkham, Mike Martin, David Reed, Ian Roome, Neil Shastri-Hurst, Rachel Taylor and Christian Wakeford appointed as members.

House of Lords

  • Lord Rennard suspended from the Liberal Democrats on 6 February.
  • Baroness Antrobus (Lab) and Baroness MacLeod of Camusdarach (Lab) were introduced in the Lords on 9 February.
  • Lord Nagaraju (Lab) and Lord Redwood (Con) were introduced in the Lords on 10 February.
  • Lord Dixon of Jericho (Lib Dem) was introduced in the Lords on 12 February.
  • Lord Doyle was a Labour peer, now a non-affiliated peer.
  • Baroness Mone was a Conservative peer, now a non-affiliated peer (continues on a leave of absence).
  • Lord Northbrook was a Conservative peer, now a non-affiliated peer.
  • Dame Anne Rafferty appointed as a House of Lords commissioner for standards  for five years; Martin Jelley’s term as a House of Lords commissioner for  standards extended until 30 June 2029.

Devolved administrations

Scottish Parliament

  • Pam Duncan-Glancy suspended by Scottish Labour’s parliamentary party on 10 February.

Scottish Government

  • Ferguson Marine Port Glasgow – Duncan Anderson appointed as chair of the board.

Welsh Parliament

  • Member Accountability Bill Committee – dissolved following the completion of Stage 2 on the Senedd Cymru (member Accountability and Elections) Bill on 12 February 2026.

Northern Ireland Executive

  • CAFRE College Advisory Group – Stephen Black, Cathal McDonnell, Orlaith McLaughlinand Lawrence Whyte appointed as members for three years.
  • Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service – Michael Graham re-appointed as non-executive (lay) member until 6 February 2030.

Local authorities

Councils

  • Bedford Borough Council – Paul Najsarek appointed as lead best value inspector; Parveen Akhtar and Margaret Lee appointed as best value inspectors.
  • Eastleigh Borough Council – James Strachan to stand down as chief executive in March.
  • Spelthorne Borough Council – Lesley Seary re-appointed lead commissioner until 31 May 2030; Peter Robinson, Mervyn Greer and Deborah McLaughlin re-appointed as commissioners until 31 May 2030.
  • Suffolk County Council – Nicola Beach to stand down as chief executive in March.

  • Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority – Lee Sirdifield formally appointed as chief executive
